My mother transitioned to heaven September 24, 2004, one week after her 78th birthday. \u00a0I was a grown woman, 57 years old. \u00a0But I thought I would die, too. \u00a0Unresolved grief had already taken a physical toll on my body. \u00a0My husband and family were concerned that I would fall into a pit of depression. \u00a0No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t locate the joy that I once had. \u00a0My smile had deserted me a year before she left. \u00a0All that remained was pain. \u00a0I missed her so much. \u00a0As I sat in my family room having one of those \u201cmissing mama\u201d days, I began to cry and to pray.<\/p>\n
I said \u201cFather, I know my mother is at perfect peace with you. \u00a0I understand that she is free of all cancer, pain and all the cares of this world. \u00a0that she lived a good life, and that she is your daughter. \u00a0I know that You called her home to be with you. Yet, my eyes long to see her beautiful face, and my ears ache to hear her angelic voice. I beseech you to help me through this storm.\u201d<\/p>\n
On this particular day, I reminded God that my mother\u2019s favorite bird was the red bird. \u00a0After my father died, a beautiful crimson colored bird started visiting my mother. \u00a0He would chirp and flounce around to get her attention. \u00a0It seemed as though he wanted her to be certain that he was there as her gift from God. \u00a0Mama would share stories of red bird sightings and encounters. \u00a0She said he always seemed to appear when she was having troubles and going through dark times. \u00a0She believed it was God\u2019s way of comforting her and reminding her that He is always with her and that everything is in Divine Order.<\/p>\n
